Education: Limb Loss & Sobriety

Understanding the Journey

At PRPL HRT MVMNT, we believe that real transformation begins with understanding. Education is a powerful tool in bridging the gap between experience and empathy—especially when it comes to veterans navigating the dual challenges of limb loss and sobriety.

Too often, society sees only the surface: the visible wound or the silent struggle. But behind every amputation and every step in recovery from addiction is a human story—one of resilience, trauma, healing, and hope. Our mission is to bring those stories to light and create informed, compassionate communities that stand beside our veterans.

The Connection Between Limb Loss & Addiction

Many veterans return from service not only with physical injuries, but also with deep emotional scars. Chronic pain, PTSD, and feelings of isolation often lead to the misuse of prescription medications, alcohol, or other substances. The road to sobriety is rarely straightforward, and for those also coping with limb loss, it’s layered with physical rehabilitation, mental health challenges, and the need to reimagine everyday life.

Understanding this intersection is essential. Sobriety isn’t just about saying no—it’s about finding new ways to say yes to life, even when the body and mind feel broken.

Breaking the Stigma

There’s still so much misunderstanding when it comes to addiction and limb loss. Many view sobriety as a choice without realizing the depth of pain that leads someone there. Others see prosthetics and assume recovery is “complete.” The truth is, both journeys are ongoing—and deeply personal.

PRPL HRT MVMNT is committed to educating the public, sharing real stories from real people, and creating safe spaces where veterans feel seen, heard, and supported. We aim to dismantle stigma through storytelling, resources, and community action.
